Voice Therapy Program
Affinity’s Speech Pathology program evaluates and treats people with hearing, speech, language, cognitive and swallowing disorders. We offer treatments and adaptations to improve a patient’s ability to communicate, including:
- speech and language delays and problems (aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, stuttering, etc.)
- cognitive retraining
- laryngectomy rehabilitation
- evaluation and treatment of voice disorders
- use, care and maintenance of communication devices
- hearing screenings and referral services.
Swallowing Problems
Affinity speech pathologists evaluate and treat people with developmental, cognitive or physical disorders that make swallowing problematic.
Speech Pathology Voice Therapy Program
Affinity Health System’s Voice Therapy program provides outpatient treatment for the professional voice, as well as children and adults who experience vocal impairments from vocal abuse or disorders of the vocal structure.
The program helps individuals improve their professional performance or communication skills so they can successfully function at home, school, work and in the community. Diagnostic evaluation and treatment depends on individual needs. Voice Therapy program doctors develop goals together with patients, families and personal doctors.
The Affinity Voice Therapy program includes:
- voice evaluation, including case history
- videostroboscopy
- acoustic and aerodynamic analysis of the voice
- ongoing contact with patient’s referring doctor or performance coach
- education on vocal variances and vocal abuse or misuse
- development of vocal hygiene for optimum vocal use
- voice facilitation techniques
- relaxation techniques
- audiovisuals including models, diagrams, videotape and audiotape
- parent and client counseling
- surgical management of vocal problems when necessary.
