Custom-fit Orthotics
Custom shoe inserts can help relieve your back, leg or foot pain.
Custom-fit orthotics are shoe inserts that control how your foot and lower body align. They can relieve foot, leg and lower back pain in many patients whose bodies are not aligned properly. Orthotics also act as shock absorbers for your feet.
Evaluation
If your doctor feels you could benefit from orthotics, you’ll meet with an Affinity physical therapist to find the right type of orthotic device for you. The physical therapist will measure and cast your foot and send the mold to a custom prosthetics company for construction. An Affinity doctor will fit your orthotics when they arrive. Orthotics are available to work with most types of footwear.
Education
In addition to fitting you for orthotics, the physical therapist will educate you about flexibility and strengthening exercises that may help you feel better. Flexibility, strength and footwear choices all contribute to getting the maximum benefit from orthotics.
Doctors recommend orthotics to patients with many conditions, including:
- foot malalignment
- arthritis
- diabetes
- plantar fascitis – heel pain
- bunions (hallux valgus)
- stiff big toe (hallux rigidus)
- heel bursitis
- hip bursitis
- tendonitis
- Achilles tendonitis
