Protecting yourself and your loved ones from the flu

Influenza (the flu) is a serious disease. Each year in the United States, on average:
• 5 percent to 20 percent of the population gets the flu.
• More than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications.
• About 36,000 people die from flu.

Protect yourself and your family - get a flu shot!

Affinity Medical Group patients are invited to receive a flu shot at these clinics in October and November, or by appointment with their primary care provider.

Who should get vaccinated?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people who should get vaccinated each year are:

1. People at high risk for complications from the flu, including:
• Children age 6 months until their 18th birthday
• Pregnant women
• People 50 years of age and older
• People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions
• People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.

2. People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:
• Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu (see above)
• Household contacts and out-of-home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated)
• Health care workers.

3. Children age 6 months up to their 19th birthday

4. Anyone who wants to decrease their risk of influenza
